This year, Vaangae Anna celebrated Puthandu with our migrant brothers and fellow Singaporeans. Our Puthandu event was held at Indian Heritage Centre on the 22nd of April 2018.
Brothers, participants and volunteers engaged in Kolam drawing which was an engaging activity for both out brothers and participants. Brothers who had not drawn Kolams before were able to try something new, while our participants were able to learn more on our culture through this activity as well. Following this, we had a POP Quiz which was in both English and Tamil. Brothers worked with the participants to solve the questions in their groups and tried to win prizes. Through this activity, there was opportunity for interaction and engagement between the brothers and participants.
Finally, everyone had lunch together which allowed for more interaction between brothers and participants. There was sharing of stories from their past which helped everyone learn more about each other. Both our brothers and participants expressed their interest to participate in VA events in the future and were eager to engage with each other more in the future.
Vaangae Anna 2017
In 2017, using the generous donations from our friends and families, we allocated a portion of the donations to purchase calling cards for our brothers. Being away from home during the festive season, could be a lonely and hard time and in the effort of bringing our brothers' slightly closer to their families, calling cards were included in this years effort.
